Pantone’s choice for the 2018 Color of the Year — Ultraviolet — is pretty well-known, but every season, the Pantone Color Institute also comes up with Fashion Color Trend Report, which highlights the key color stories for each season.

For Fall 2018, they highlighted the top ten trending colors, as well as five more classic core colors, which can easily be mixed and matched, making them ideal wardrobe bases.

Read on to see six of our favorite colors from the palettes!

Valiant Poppy

Autumn usually brings to mind deep reds in wine or burgundy. While this season’s palette has a shade that meets that description in Red Pear, it also includes a brighter, bolder red.

Think of it as the fashion equivalent of wearing a red lip: it’s an instant confidence booster, and whether you wear it from head-to-toe or as an accent, is a statement in itself. Pantone describes Valiant Poppy as “brave and outgoing…effusive in its allure”. We saw tons of designers falling for that allure, including Valentino (no surprise from the house known for the iconic Valentino red) — in fact, the color’s become a key trend on its own.

Ceylon Yellow

Lanvin Fall 2018 | CLOSET Wide Leg Jumpsuit

As an evolution of Gen Z Yellow, Ceylon Yellow is “savory and spicy” — not sunshine bright or flashy neon, it’s a little more muted, making it extremely wearable for everyday. Wear it in a silky fabric to add an extra dash of sophistication.

Tofu

Chloé Fall 2018 | Mango Striped Wrap Blouse

Tofu is one of the five neutral classic colors from the Fashion Color Trend Report, and it’s perfect for fall — the creamy off-white, especially in loose cotton or linen pieces, evokes nature and coziness, plus will go with pretty much any color on this list.

Nebulas Blue

Prabal Gurung Fall 2018 | Mango Belt Ribbed Dress

This bright blue is probably the opposite of what most people think of when they hear Fall/Winter, but Pantone describes the hue as “reminiscent of twilight, a thoughtful, starry-eyed blue”, fitting into the overall deepness and richness of the seasonal color story. We love the unexpected pop of color — it’s an interesting switch-up from your usual denim and navy.

Martini Olive

Erika Cavallini Fall 2018 | ZALORA BASICS Basic Waterfall Cardigan

This dark olive green is more traditionally autumnal, providing an earthy but sophisticated grounding for your wardrobe. Tied into the overall urban safari trend — characterized by desert tones, classic silhouettes, and comfortable fits — Martini Olive is a utilitarian chic option for this season. Try it for your outerwear, whether you’re going with a workwear blazer or safari-like jacket.

Pink Peacock

Jason Wu Fall 2018 | ZALORA High Neck Bodycon Dress

Move over, millennial pink — this bright, vivid pink is the new must-have color of the season. Although Pink Peacock wasn’t included in Pantone’s original palette, they added it (along with the pale Mellow Rose) onto the London Fashion Week palette, given London fashion’s free-spirited and experimental nature. Many of the biggest designers, from Alexander Wang to Oscar de la Renta, sent out at least a hint of this shade. Wear it on your next night out to steal the scene.
